En nuestro país y en muchas partes del mundo, estamos teniendo un problema muy serio con las inundaciones y es bueno que los expertos de las áreas implicadas se pongan a cavilar aún más en una solución efectiva, como la que me imagino ya estarán desarrollando. Las grandes lluvias son la causa principal de este problema, pero, sumado a eso, hay una serie de factores que han hecho que el asunto se vuelva inmanejable para los humanos. Según un artículo de platea.pntic.mec.es (SF, p.1), existen muchas causas que favorecen las inundaciones, y a manera de ejemplo podemos enumerar algunas: El exceso de precipitación: el agua de lluvia no es absorbida en las ciudades debido a los pavimentos y al cemento que hay en el suelo. En España, por ejemplo, se han reportado zonas que registran aguaceros de hasta 817 mm. La fusión de las nieves: se funden en la primavera y como los ríos se alimentan de estas aguas aumentan su volumen, lo que ocasiona que se desborden más fácilmente. La rotura de represas: cuando estas se rompen, generan grandes inundaciones. La actividad humana: el asfaltar cada vez más superficies es lo que impide que el agua pueda absorberse y es lo que hace que las mismas lleguen en cantidades mayores a los cauces de los ríos a través de desagües y cunetas. Aparejado a esto, tenemos el conocido problema de la tala de árboles produciendo erosión en los terrenos que desprenden grandes cantidades de materiales que agravan los efectos de la inundación, puesto que se taponean los ríos y los desagües. Meditando y observando, creo, que algunas ideas de solución, en parte, a este gravísimo problema puede ser: Aumentar la siembra de árboles [existen plantas como la remolacha (Beta vulgaris) y los girasoles ( Helianthus annuus) cuyas raíces alcanzan hasta los dos metros ( pongo ejemplos, hay que ver cuáles crecen más rápido y las más apropiadas)], que, si se cultivan en las paredes de los cerros y en forma de cordones periféricos alrededor de los poblados vulnerables, pueden ayudar a disminuir la erosión de los cerros desforestados. A la par de lo anterior, se pueden construir canales gigantescos alrededor de las ciudades y poblados vulnerables, que independicen las aguas de los sistemas de alcantarillado que ya de por sí se encuentran atascados, o son muy pequeños para contener los volúmenes del líquido y que esas aguas vayan a dar directamente al mar. En otras palabras, esos canales vendrían a “darle una mano” a los ríos y funcionarían como especie de ríos artificiales. En ciertas zonas, los canales deberán tener tapas con huecos para que el agua pueda pasar al interior de estos y no sean un obstáculo para el desplazamiento de personas ni vehículos. Sumado a lo anterior, podría implementarse quizás, construir las carreteras, aceras y demás chorreas, con perforaciones adecuadas que permitan la absorción de las aguas fluviales. Las carreteras existentes deberían ser perforadas con el mismo fin. Los especialistas son quienes tienen que dar la última palabra de si lo que se emite aquí es posible llevarlo a la práctica. Las anteriores sugerencias podrían no ser originales, o tal vez sonar a algo descabellado, pero pueden dar pie a otras ideas mejor fundamentadas. Por otro lado, la posible solución de todo problema social tiene que ver con la educación y la colaboración de todos. En un artículo (Redacción El Tiempo, 2010, p.1), se nos recuerdan algunos consejos para contrarrestar el efecto de las lluvias torrenciales. Veamos cuáles son algunas de esas ideas: 1. No arrojar desperdicios, basuras, a los ríos (cosas que ya sabemos desde hace mucho). 2. No hay que tirar basura en las calles porque eso tapona las alcantarillas, no deja correr el agua y favorece la inundación. 3. Realizar un manejo adecuado de las aguas fluviales y aguas de servicio en la vivienda y en la comunidad, lo que significa, no tener tubos abiertos innecesariamente. 4. Hay que estar revisando constantemente las posibles obstrucciones de los pozos, sumideros y otras estructuras que no permiten el paso de las aguas. Ver la razón por la cual el nivel de las alcantarillas tiende a subir.5. Revisar que las conexiones de aguas no tengan fugas que en alguna medida se conviertan en una sumatoria de aguas que a algún lado van a dar. En fin, amigo lector, muchas cosas más se pueden hacer para minimizar los efectos de las fuertes lluvias, lo que no podemos hacer es quedarnos de brazos cruzados a esperar otro embate de la naturaleza…
